“Texas, our Texas! All hail the mighty state! Texas, our Texas! So wonderful so great! Boldest and grandest, withstanding ev’ry test; O empire wilde and glorious, you stand supremely best.”
Our National State Song shows our Texas pride. My family has lived in this glorious state for 7 generations and I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. There are many different things in Texas that you can’t find anywhere else; like the ancient Spanish missions, HEB -the greatest grocery store ever, the Paris inspired River walk, and the vast variety of landscapes. These things add to why Texas is the best state to live in.
Texas is the 2nd largest state in the United States behind Alaska which means there is plenty of room for people to live here. In fact, it is so big that about 2 years ago when my family and I went to Tennessee to visit some family, it took us over 6 hours to get out of Texas from San Antonio. Other than it’s size, Texas is also known for its abundance of resources. They include oil, cattle, wool, cotton, and wind power. Texas has more cattle than any other state according to nationalgeographic.com. It also has one of the largest wind-power producing plants in the world – more than 100,000 acres of wind turbines! This is beneficial because things like these attract buyers’ attention who will pay Texas for these things which will make Texas a richer state. With the money, Texas can make better streets, homes, malls and more things in the community to make it an even better state to call your home.
Texas has many cool places to go to like Big Bend National park in Alpine, The Alamo and the RiverWalk in San Antonio, the Houston Space Center, and so much more. The awesome thing about Texas is the variety of landscapes. You have mountains, beaches, hill country, and urban areas. Whether you’re in the mood to hike, fish, swim, surf, hunt, or go shopping in the city, there is a destination for you.
Another amazing thing about Texas is its food. It has many famous 5 star restaurants that include bbq, Tex-Mex, and American food. One of my personal favorites is Down On Grayson by the Pearl brewery, in San Antonio. It is a family friendly restaurant with fun outdoor seating, a Modern atmosphere, and amazing food for everyone including fish tacos, chicken tortilla soup, burgers, and the biggest slice of strawberry cake you’ll ever see!
Out of all the many fun things you can do in Texas, one of my favorites has to be going to the beaches, but it is probably not for the reasons you are thinking. Although the Texas beaches are fun to go to, the boardwalk itself is what I enjoy most. I have gone to other beaches in Florida and even though the ocean might be clearer, the boardwalk doesn’t even compare to Texas’. Texas’ boardwalks are more friendly, fun, and there are more things to do. For example, when I went to Destin, Florida, there wasn’t anything unique about it besides the beaches. There weren’t many family owned candy shops, ice cream shops, or stores and instead there were big chains like Chick-fil-a or Baskin Robbins in which most of us have experienced before. On the other hand, in Port Aransas, Tx, there were plenty of unique places. Even though there are big chains there, they also have really cool family owned businesses. Because of the ambience of the boardwalks and towns, I enjoy going to Texas beaches rather than other beaches in the U.S. Living in Texas, I never get bored because there’s always something fun, unique, and different to do.
Believe it or not, Texas is a really interesting state compared to others because it is prolific in History. If you enjoy learning about the past like me, you will love it in Texas! One of the most historic cities in Texas is the one I live in, San Antonio. Every once in a while I go downtown and learn something new about my city. It has the most concentration of Spanish architecture in North America including the Alamo and the riverwalk where many of the missions were built. Speaking of learning, our schools literally dedicate a few years of Social Studies to teach about Texas history alone. Our education proves how much history really is in our state.
This marvelous state of Texas really is like no other because of its history, size, activities, and variety of landscapes. There is no reason you wouldn’t want to live here! If you want to learn more about why Texas is the best state to live in, go to Texas.gov.
